John Finney

John Finney received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he studied piano with Maurice Hinson and composition with Philip Landgrave. He also holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in piano from the University of Kentucky. Before moving to Louisiana, he maintained a large piano studio in Windsor, Connecticut and founded and directed Laudate Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble that served the homeschooling community. He loves to teach students of all ages, enabling them to make music for themselves and guiding them to a deeper understanding of music. He directs the music ministry of First Baptist Church Gonzales and enjoys composing music for worship, particularly settings of the biblical Psalms. Four of his Psalm settings are included in Psalms of Grace, a new psalter published by Masters Seminary Press.
