Alexias Ferrer

Alexias Ferrer is a pianist originally from San Marcos, Texas that has been playing for over 25 years. He began his piano studies at the age of four with his mother then began taking formal piano lessons by age six. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Texas State University in 2016 and earned his Master of Music degree from Louisiana State University in 2019. He is currently back at LSU and is expected to graduate with his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2024.

He has performed many solo recitals locally and abroad, including at the Musicartissimo Music festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2015 and as a collaborator for vocalists and instrumentalists. He began teaching piano in 2011 at the Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos and taught there for 6 years. Since then he has taught all age and skill levels and believes in the philosophy of pianist Vladimir Horowitz: "the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is practice."

When not at the piano or attending his studies, Alexias is a long distance runner and has run three marathons, including most recently the Jan. 2022 Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge, with a time of 4’11’32”. He has a background in martial arts and earned a 2nd degree black belt in Kajukenbo Karate in Fall of 2020. He is engaged to fellow musician and jazz vocalist Brenna Machado. When they’re not busy performing or practicing they enjoy cooking together and traveling.
