Annual Festival Competition

1pm, May 2nd, 2021

Eligibility: Musicians from ages 5 to 18. Instruments include violin, viola, cello, piano, and harp.

Repertoire: Repertoire requirements depend on the level of the student. Level 1 is for beginning students who are just getting comfortable with their respective instruments. Level 2 is for intermediate players. Level 3 is for advanced students that are confidant playing concertos and demanding etudes.

Level 1: Two solo pieces

Level 2: A scale or etude; one or two solo pieces

Level 3: Concerto or showpiece with piano accompaniment (please arrange with your own pianist. Grace Notes is happy to recommend an accompanist if needed.) Level 3 participants will perform at 6pm in a location TBD. These performances will be in a concert setting open to the public with masks required and social distancing enforced.

Participation Options: We will assign audition times and offer in-person participation at Grace Notes. For those limiting their social contact, we will offer a video submission option via YouTube link. However, Level 3 will be in-person participation only.

Judging: Each contestant will be evaluated on a ten point scale. Musicians in Levels 1 and 2 that score a 7 or higher will receive a medal. Level 3 will award a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The 1st place winner will receive a $50 cash prize and a trophy. Our judges will be looking at technique, pitch, rhythm, and musicality. Memorization is encouraged but not required.

Location: The competition will take place at the Grace Notes School of Music, 10621 N Oak Hills Pkwy, Ste C, Baton Rouge, LA 70810.

Registration: Please register by completing the form below before April 23rd. There is a $30 fee per each participant that you must bring at the time of your audition. For those submitting a video audition, you will be invoiced via email.
